Why was 2024 chosen as the Year of the Camel? 

2024 was chosen as the Year of the Camel in celebration of its unique cultural value.  

Since the dawn of history, camels have represented an important symbol in the lives of the people of the Arabian Peninsula. 

This comes in the context of celebrating our distinctive cultural elements, like we did with the “Year of Arabic Poetry” and the “Year of Saudi Coffee,” we dedicate 2024 to celebrating the camel! 

Since ancient times, camels have been companions to the Bedouins, the primary means of transportation in our vast desert, and a witness to the stories of our ancestors and their authentic heritage. The camel is not just an animal, but a symbol of patience, strength, adaptability, and pride – authentic values rooted in the heart of every Saudi! 

 

Symbol of Saudi Heritage and Ship of the Desert 

Camels were the primary means of transportation and travel in the challenging desert environment. Tribes relied on camels to transport goods across deserts and valleys. 

The camel’s role wasn’t limited to transportation; it extended to providing food, milk, leather, and wool, making it a main pillar of ancient economy. 

 

Between the Past and the Future: The Evolution of Transportation from Camels to Buses 

From the “ships of the desert” to the modern buses of today, transportation in the Kingdom has witnessed a tremendous evolution. Thanks to the ambitious Vision of 2030, Saudi Arabia has experienced a comprehensive development renaissance in all sectors, including transportation. 

From the era of camels and the ships of the desert, we have moved to the era of buses, airplanes, and even the modern Riyadh metro. A Competition to Design a Distinctive Sticker Reflecting the Importance of the Year of the Camel 

Believing in the importance of participating in this national celebration of the camel, we at “Northwest Bus” launched a distinctive competition for designing a bus sticker inspired by the Year of the Camel. We invited all creative students across the Kingdom to participate with their ideas and innovative designs to take part in this historical journey and express their pride in this cherished national symbol.
